Junk

Too many adults are pushing processed sweets and harmful foods on my 6 year-old daughter. Let me list it off...

Sundays from 6:00 to 7:00 (sometimes it is 5-7) she has choir - choir teacher gives out candy right at dinner time.

Wednesdays from5:30 to 6:45 she has CCE - CCE teacher usually gives out store bought cupcakes, cookies, or candy at dinner time.

YMCA youth sports - at games and practices crap (ie. cookies, doughnuts, or some other processed confection) is handed out along side a sugary drink. Isn't this counterproductive? The crap food AND drink at practices is of course given out at dinner time. ...When I was a kid you got water at practices and that was just fine. Why did this have to change? At games we got oranges at halftime and then the junky sports drink or soft drink but without the crap food to go along with it at the end.

Girl Scouts every Friday from 11 am to noon. Of course they serve a snack right before lunch! Fortunately about half the moms will serve fruit or something healthy instead. This is a homeschool troop and many of the moms are the natural type.

Where else are the death foods (unnatural store-bought processed edibles) being offered to her? birthday parties, any holiday party, allergist office, grandma Betty, grocery store, some friends houses, and at church after mass donuts and flavored drinks are offered

The CCE and choir teachers were suprised that I have my daughter trained to turn down their "treats". The CCE teacher now gives my daughter raisins and every other child the usual unhealthy "treat". The fellow YMCA parents that provide snacks for teams were very resistant to my idea of taking the two minutes to slice oranges and forgo the unhealthier albeit easier options. Some did bring fruit but they always brought the "treats". I guess the adults find it cute to get the little pancreases to go "squirt squirt". I sliced oranges and brought raisins for their kiddos sugar fix. I find it funny that this stuff makes it into the churches, because God did not intend for us to eat this stuff.

It is no wonder that this generation of kids is predicted to die younger than their parents due to weight-related illnesses! Everywhere kids go the adults push processed sweets on them creating sugar-crazed kids waiting for their next fix.

Yeah, it's outrageous. I know you don't have cable, so if you can find recent episodes of Real Time with Bill Maher on the internets, you will be pleased. He is on mission to get people to eradicate high fructose corn syrup from their diets.

To be fair to Grandma Betty, I recall one Blue Bird troop meeting at your house when she served apples and (real) apple juice for our snack. This was a highly unusual departure from the fried pies, Hostess cupcakes, and Mrs. Bairds powdered doughnuts.
