What is Wrong with Halloween?

Anything can be bad if you make it that way. Food and drink can be bad if you over-indulge. A boot can be bad if you kick a person in the shin. Halloween can be bad if you egg houses or take part in some other ill-mannered activity. Come on! Halloween means the eve before whats hallowed. (For Catholics, that is the eve before All Saints Day.)

What is the deal with replacing Halloween with all these "Harvest Festivals"? None of the many people I've met that promote these actually harvest anything. Why not be a good fun example of what Halloween can be rather than "censor" a traditional fun holiday? I'm not trying to censor the harvest festival. Heck, I'd celebrate that too! What I think is crazy is that there exists people that I fear cast judgement on me if my daughter wears a benign Halloween shirt. Ludicrous!

The fundamentalist evangelical whackos want to spoil the fun by making it out to be some satanic holiday. It just goes to show how horribly uneducated they are.

I totally agree with your post.

I have similar thoughts about those mega churches like Second Baptist. Church certainly can be a good place, but not (IMO) when they spend $25+ million dollars building and designing a youth center to look like an airport (in order to attract the uber rich kids who may think it's cool) when there are real people with real needs in this world (needing clean water, food of any kind, clothing of any kind, shelter beyond a tent made of plastic grocery bags).

It's as though some the most righteous folks have no moral compass. God only gives us so many waking hours. We all tend to waste a lot of those hours (human nature), but people who devote their lives entirely to unworthy causes make me a little sad and a little angry, too.
