Out of Whack and a Little Wiser
A funny thing happened after my last post. When I got up from my chair in front of the computer, something in my left hip popped and I could not straighten my body at the hip. Yes, despite my careful workout planning, I was stuck in the shape of a horizontal V unable to apply weight to my left leg at all. The chain of events that occured immediately following this are too embarrassing to detail, but my husband delighted in a laughing fit for about 20 minutes. I blame this alarming pain-of-events on the lower ab exercise which engaged the hip area that I did earlier that day.
Thankfully by morning I was able to emerge from bed a little wiser and completely upright. There really is nothing like experience is there? I've got a degree and supposedly top notch certification in fitness and that just doesn't amount to squat (pun intended) without having experienced conditions that provide a realization of our less than superhuman nature. I believe before trainers are truly qualified to work in the profession, they need to suffer a number of debilitating injuries and conditions before they go out and accidentally kill someone with their sound textbook advice. I have witnissed a number of young well-meaning trainers with whatever education level recommend workouts for regular people that are at best dangerous. I guess I am thankful for the assortment of maladies I've suffered in the last ten years. The migraines, lower back pain, pregnancies and such will help me return from my hiatus of small child rearing a little wiser. I would recommend a trainer that stays current in the field and is no younger than 40 for anyone. I've got another seven years and a little more suffering to go before I am qualified by my own standards.
