I'm Back!!!

My husband's work-free/school-free vacation officially started December 22nd. That night we attended his corporate Christmas party and immediately fell ill following a very late night. It could have been worse. We could have ordered our vodka-laced beverages without the orange juice. Anyway, my husband was out with the flu which eventually hit the whole family and I started out with a nasty mastitis infection and then the flu two days later.

This flu was more malicious than any of the regular flus I remember contracting before. I had a fever for a week. Two days I had fever over 103 which would not relent at all with ibuprofen. Even after the worst of it and all the fevers, the whole family is still recovering.

Christmas break obviously didn't go as planned. After the flu hit, we were stuck at home for the duration. We remained humorously positive despite the cabin fever and all the plans we had to cancel. We finally did manage a trip to see the inlaws this past weekend after having to cancel on them 3 different times over Christmas break.

Christmas Eve was especially exhausting. I was getting sick with the flu and my oldest was too excited to sleep. I desperately needed to sleep and was about ready to explain away Santa Claus. Then the baby threw up all over herself, the crib, me, and anything else around. At 2 am I am giving the baby a bath, pulling out a portable crib, and cleaning myself up. My oldest did finally sleep and Santa 'REALLY' did get to come by.

Christmas day arrives. My oldest comes in at 4:07 am in the morning wanting to open presents. My husband and I feel HORRIBLE. "Please don't come back until the sun comes out" I tell her. After we open presents, my kids have the time of their lives playing video games all day with their new Star Wars plug n play games as mom and dad are very sick in bed. They don't realize the flu is soon to hit them too.... and it isn't any kinder to them.

It is over and we made it. Next work-free/school-free break we are heading to Arkansas for vacation. It is nice to have something like that to look forward to after this mess.

Sounds horrifying. Plus, Mom never gets to be sick when anyone else in the family is sick. Glad all of you pulled through.

Oh! So sorry the break got ruined. As you know, a sense of humor always helps. Are you planning to come visit us in Arkansas? We would be honored.
