Getting Tired of This Youth Soccer Debacle Thing

Okay. So I spoke with the sports director and he was extremely pleasant. He promised in the future to cap the team size at 12 for playing 7 on a side. He agreed three year olds shouldn't be permitted on the 4/5 yo teams and gave his excuses for everything going awry. I left satisfied and reassured that since he was still rather wet behind the ears that it is reasonable for there to be a learning curve. Unfortunately, I cannot tell any learning occured...

I had also spoken with him about taking on new players onto my team. Given this was a crazy season, I agreed to take on 5 more players since one team consistently had numerous no-shows for games and practices. This would put my team at over 12 to 14. 14 still guarantees every child plays half of the game... which is also what the Y promises when you put your money down to sign your child up. Right?

Wrong. Why did 15 players show up at game time today? One of my old players didn't show up. Had she shown up we would have had 16. This is 2 more than the agreed upon 14. This is rather disappointing for the children. I don't know what other people think, but once a child is down to playing just one quarter of the game, is it really even worth all of the hassle of coming? It is a big deal to wake up early on a Saturday morning and locate the cleats, shinguards, and team shirts and head over to the Y. Managing children takes a lot of energy and patience.

I'm irritated. I'm irritated that a person can receive a professional salary for this debacle. I have never seen this ineptness in sports before. I guess I will be exchanging pleasantries with the sports director again soon.

BTW - Jessica scored her first goal of the season today!!! Yahoo!
